In the following you will see a very interesting IP videoconferencing statistic regarding latency based on a long term measurement.

Down below a comparison between IP video calls through a company network point-to-point (blue) and IP video calls through public internet hosted resp. connected on one of the ViDOFON MCUs.

This long term measurement contains 36 locations, multiple entries means several locations and video endpoints and a total of 11.423(!) IP video connections.

A MCU (Bridge) is a centrally and very powerful IP videoconferencing multipoint infrastructure to connect videoconferencing endpoints - to do multiparty video calls or to host point-to-point video calls as a central dial-in point. The MCU is centraly deployed on a 100 MBit/s internet backbone.

As you can see - connections done within the company network (blue) for example in UK #01 it has a latency* (Tx/Rx) of about 160ms - through the ViDOFON MCU (red) it is significantly reduced to 30ms! France #01 has an average latency of 130ms (174 calls) - through the MCU its just 64ms. Even in Germany the latency (Tx/Rx) of 130ms was reduced down to 40ms.

30 locations and endpoints out of 36 benefit of connections through the MCU! Only 2 location were going worse and 4 locations were nearly the same (yellow). This means a percentage of 83% of the locations and video endpoint benefit from connection done through the MCU.

Conclusion - a centrally MCU deployed on a high bandwith location reduces dramatically latency in both direction (Tx, Rx), increases dramatically videoconferencing call quality, stability, availability and reliability.
